Biography
Dr. Alexander is from Columbus, Ohio and grew up a Buckeye. She went to The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree in Biology, then attended Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia for medical school. After completing her 5-year residency, Dr. Alexander completed a 1-year fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Surgery, where she learned to perform ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) and POEM (per oral endoscopic myotomy) in addition to other procedures.
In September 2018 Dr. Alexander joined Bon Secours Mercy Health as a General Surgeon and ERCP specialist practicing in Springfield and Urbana. She enjoys many types of surgery including gallbladder, hernia, colon and small bowel, spleen, parathyroid, and thyroid surgeries. She uses minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopic or robotic surgery whenever possible. Dr. Alexander also enjoys endoscopic procedures including ERCP, POEM, upper endoscopy (EGD), and colonoscopy.
